AWS Certified Database-Specialty

Posted on |

I’m happy to share that I’ve passed the AWS Certified Database – Specialty exam https://www.credly.com/badges/69c52641-9461-40f7-875e-8f80b2a12c81. I got a 50% off voucher on the exam after I join on “Get AWS Certified: Specialty Challenge”. I was challenged lol. Today I’ll be sharing my thoughts and experience on the said exam certification.

The videos, books, and tools I used for studying are as follows:

  • tutorialsdojo.com AWS Certified Database Specialty Practice Exams 2022
  • AWS Documentation and FAQ. Amazon RDS, Amazon Aurora, Amazon DynamoDB, Amazon Redshift, Amazon ElasticCache, Amazon DocumentDB, Amazon Neptune, Amazon ElasticSearch, Amazon QLDB, Amazon Keyspaces, Amazon Timestream, Database Migration Service, Cloudformatoin, AWS Key Management Service and VPC/Networking. Focus on RDS, Aurora, Dynamodb, Redshift, and Database Migration as most of the questions appear on this topic. For the rest an overview is fine.
  • AWS Whitepapers https://aws.amazon.com/certification/certified-database-specialty/.
  • AWS Console. Make sure to test database services related. For example, if you restore a database, what will be restored and what is not? Check the configs and logs! Test Test Test!

I spent $150 (originally $300) for the exam. $11 for the Udemy [NEW] Ultimate AWS Certified Database Specialty 2022 and $10 for tutorialsdojo.com AWS Certified Database Specialty Practice Exams 2022 both of which I bought during the Black Friday Sale!

I took the exam Sunday at 1 AM thru Pearson Vue Online at my home. My preparation for the exam was tough, with 3 months of review (just at least 1 hour a day and taking advantage of the holidays). I did a long preparation because I don’t use some of the AWS databases day to day like Microsoft SQL, Oracle, and even DMS. I’m comfortable with Mysql, PostgreSQL, Aurora, and Dynamodb as I already have experience using it. I did some thorough tests on Redshift, ElasticCache, and DMS so make sure to delete all your test to avoid expensive bills. I already have 9 AWS certifications so for VPC/Networking, Cloudformation, and EC2 instance I just skip them but make sure you are familiar with them.

I like to thank my wife and my kids. After the exam, my family and I went straight to my kid’s 2nd birthday at Mcdonald’s. It was an insane no-sleep weekend lol but I’m very happy! Happy birthday Amahri!

Good luck to those who will take the exam and see you around 🙂
